The Key to Success in Anything

That’s right, I think I’ve worked out the secret to become successful at absolutely anything at all.

It’s worked for me when it comes to playing the guitar, writing music, music production, marketing, and even building a (small, I know) Medium audience. The more I think about it, the more I’m pretty sure it works for absolutely anything.

The thing is, it isn’t even very hard. It’s actually pretty easy. But it eludes people, and once I tell you what it is, you’ll immediately understand why. You’ll say, “Yep, that’s right — that’s exactly why I haven’t become particularly successful at some things.”

The key to success isn’t to be born with natural talent. It isn’t even necessarily to work hard at something. It isn’t relationship building or “finding the right mentor.” It isn’t praying to the right god or reading The Secret.

The elusive secret to become successful at absolutely anything at all is…

Consistency.

Be consistent. Continue to do the thing. Even when you don’t want to. Even when it feels like it’s going nowhere. Even when you’re bored or tired or anxious, or you want to try something else.

Stick with it.

If you try to learn guitar over night, you won’t be very good. You have to pick it up and practice it…
