How to Make Money with SEO
Many an SEO has gone astray by doing everything right.
Read all about search engine optimization, article after article on Medium or Moz or Hubspot, and you’ll likely come away thinking that you get it.
SEO is about identifying relatively high-volume and low-competition keywords, then building fast, robust pages all about them, you’ll tell your coworkers. You’ll bring up the skyscraper content marketing technique and how competitor research can give you the edge you need to achieve top 3 rankings, then wink and tell them that schema is the secret to achieving position zero. You’ll begin planning out your microsites and having meaningful discussions about whether or not you should do listing management in-house or shop it out to an agency.
But the thing is, none of that matters because SEO isn’t about keywords or rankings or schema.
It’s about money.
You can SEO the shit out of a website and get it to rank at the top of the search results for everything your executive team ever dreamed, but if organic traffic isn’t coming to your website and converting, all that effort is wasted.
So how do you do SEO right? How do you make money with it?
